The Long Game

This is a feel good movie that you can bring any age with you. I don’t think if you’re a strong supporter of Trump or a MAGA, you’ll enjoy this so that’s probably the only group I’d recommend not to see this. I’m not trying to make a political point, just don’t think my friends that lean that way, would enjoy a movie that leans the other direction.

It’s based off a true story back in the 50’s when most of the adult males had returned from World War II. The star of the movie moves to Del Rio, TX, attempts to join a country club, is turned down because he’s a Mexican-American. He’s also the superintendent of a local school who in turn puts together a golf team.

It’s a feel good story that is very predictable, both the good and bad. I don’t believe there was any cursing, no nudity and no violence, thus any age can see it. There is a couple things that are not explained at the end that I believe they should have, thus lowered my rating by a point.

I’m glad I saw it but is one that can be seen on TV later.

Civil War

It’s been a long time since I saw a movie and stayed in my seat for a few minutes when it was over. It’s about a group of journalists that are trying to get to DC before the military gets there with the goal to interview the president before anybody else does or he gets taken out.

Yes, I expected this to be a political movie, most likely against the MAGA movement and with that in mind, expected a bunch of shots against it. I knew it wouldn’t be that direct but with an underlying message. Instead I found myself not sure which side was the good guys or bad guys. I’m not going to spoil it here.

The movie is incredibly graphic and seems so real we could see all of that kind of stuff happening. Very disturbing. I’m not going to compare it to Schindler’s List but I got to say I had the same sick feeling when it was over.

I would NOT recommend this movie for anybody under the age of 21 unless they are very mature. I also wouldn’t recommend it for half of my friends and I definitely would not go and see this with someone on your opposite politically.

That said, one of the best movies I’ve ever seen not just for the story but the so realistic scenes that I question if some of them were from actual atrocities footage we’d never see on the news but actually happened. I don’t know.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

If you know me, you fully understand that this movie is right up my alley. It is based on real events of a crew of seven individuals (six men, one woman) sent on a mission by Winston Churchill during World War II. One of the stars of the movie is Alan Ritchson who also plays Reecher in the Amazon series – easily my top five television series of all time.

This group is the supposed inspiration for the James Bond series – secret missions and more. It’s even mentioned in the movie.

I would recommend this for anybody that likes action, liked the show Reecher or is into history, specifically World War II. I’d say ok for anybody above the age of 10.

I will be seeing it again.

Sasquatch Sunset

Couple hours of my life I’ll never get back. No talking, all grunting – sasquatches having sex and masturbating and pisses all over the place. There were a few funny scenes but not enough to keep four of the eight people in their seats – two couples left about a third way and then half way through the film. I would have done the same but I try to give every movie a chance so I painfully stayed to the end.

Not a movie for kids and I’d say not a movie for anybody. Made my top ten unofficial worse movie list.

2/10

Arcadian

So I thought this was going to be an action thriller. All I really knew was that it had Nicolas Cage in it so chances are it was pretty good. Good? It was better than average. It was closer to a horror movie than what I was expecting which I am not usually a fan of. Pretty predictable but entertaining enough. Not a good movie to bring small kids to.

5/10

Wicked Little Letters

I enjoyed this movie, made you think a little bit and was pretty funny. Actually based off a real story which we looked up what really happened. Not a bad interpretation. It’s starts out with the woman on the left above receiving a profane letter and the younger woman on the right being accused of sending it. The rest of the movie is the town and country figuring out what, who and why these letters are being mailed to various people.

Definitely not for kids under the age of 13, lot of cursing and other stuff. If one is into shows like any law and order, you will like this. I believe I saw this on the last night it was in theaters which is ok because this a movie one could enjoy just as much at home.

7/10

Irene’s Vow

Although I strongly recommend this movie, good luck finding it. I saw it Monday (4/15) evening at what they call a special feature – only playing for two nights. It’s about a Christian young woman during NAZI Germany that helps about eleven Jewish people survive. It’s very realistic, very graphic and obviously disturbing to anybody with a heart. This is the kind of movie that when you leave, you wish you saw a white nationalist person out front that you could run over with your car. Also, gives you appreciation for the anger on the one side of the Charlotte march a few years ago.

I would not bring anybody under the age of 13 but I would strongly recommend this is a must see for anybody above the age of 13. Just be prepared for not a fun story.

Madam Web

My youngest wanted to see this – I had heard it got terrible reviews and the main star bashed it herself (should be in her contract not do that but that’s for another day). I really enjoy all the marvel movies so the fact that this starred a very attractive Dakota Johnson and one of the secondary characters was Sydney Sweeney, I guess my arm could get twisted to watch it.

Very surprised – my daughter and I both very much enjoyed this. The most disappointing part is that they clearly are not going to continues this series and they so could so. In regards to the two aforementioned actresses – I had to ask my daughter after we left which one was Sydney Sweeney, thus not as memorable as I thought she would be but I thought all three girls playing the students did an excellent job as well as Dakota. I really can’t think of anything negative to say about this. I’d recommend for all but keep an open mind and judge yourself instead of the negative press it got

7/10

In the Land of Saints and Sinners

Any movie with Liam Neeson is good enough for me to see and just like all the others, this one did not disappoint. It’s about a hitman trying to retire from the business and to no one’s surprise, doesn’t quite work out that way. I really enjoyed this and would recommend it. It’s like most of his other movies so as long as your into that, you’ll enjoy this one as well.
